ProAction Cops & Kids’ Durham Region Chapter is proud to host the 7th Annual Jeans & Jewels event featuring crowd favorites TWO FOR THE SHOW on Saturday, February 9th, 2019 at the Jubilee Pavilion Ballroom in Oshawa.

We invite you to join us at this great event in support of funding police-led youth programs in Durham Region. Guests will enjoy an evening filled with dancing to music of the ages, delicious food, exciting auction items, live performances and the chance to provide young people with new opportunities that lead to success and safer communities. Over the past ten years, ProAction has supported 175 programs in Durham Region providing over 14,000 Durham youth with new skills and police mentors who help guide them to better life choices.

What happens when you give youth creativity, purpose, and LEGO bricks? Pure magic at our Lego Kids Program at Gosford Public School with NCOs from TPS 31 Division!

Last month, our young builders went beyond just creating - they connected with history in their own unique way. Using LEGO bricks, they designed beautiful poppies and touching memorials, each piece placed with thought and care as they learned about those who fought for our freedom.

These moments in our program show how powerful hands-on learning can be. As students built their memorials, they weren't just stacking bricks - they were building understanding, respect, and connection to our community's history. Working alongside officers, they shared stories, asked questions, and discovered new ways to express what remembrance means to them.

It's these kinds of experiences that make the Lego Kids Program so special. Through something as simple as LEGO bricks, we're building bridges between youth, police officers, and our shared history.

Today, we recognize Ku Paw, our Youth Leadership Award recipient, whose leadership shines through her participation in the Boats & Goals, SWAMPY and Over the Edge programs in our Hamilton Chapter.

"Ku Paw is a dynamic and empathetic leader who possesses a unique ability to connect with and inspire young people. She consistently demonstrated a strong passion for mentorship and community engagement during her time in the programs and has excelled in creating inclusive environments that empower young individuals to reach their full potential," said nominating officer, PC Patrick Cole.

Ku Paw is a leader with her peers and has the passion, skills, and commitment necessary to empower and inspire the next generation.

"I can say with confidence that each program I participated in...I knew I wanted to get more involved in a leadership role. I took initiative by asking officers and councillors what I could do to assist in making their programs not only fun but a success! I would also encourage other youth to participate in these fun activities because it also taught us about community. From my volunteering experiences I learned more about myself over time and realized I'm a natural leader. I believe in hard work and strive to be a better person any which way I can including volunteering at community events. I believe I positively influence my peers and community members by 'leading by example', being involved with these events and seeing younger kids wanting to take part too. I will continue to participate, influence and lead by example for all those involved because it's important for me to want to be better individually, and to be better as a community!" – Ku Paw
